SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainablity for us means taking responsibilty from the beginning until the end

Materials

working title follows an ethical approach rooted in a personal respect for nature and living things. It shapes what the practice makes, the materials it chooses and the people it chooses to work with.

Aesthetics and responsibility are not considered separately. A garment, an object or a space should be beautiful and functional, but also considered in how it is made, how long it will last and what remains when it is no longer needed.

Materials are chosen for their quality, character and ability to age well. working title favours natural materials and works closely with experienced makers, manufacturers and craftspeople.

The aim is to make fewer, better things that can be used, cared for, repaired and kept.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

working title designs beyond seasons and short-lived trends. Each piece is developed with the intention of becoming part of everyday life and remaining there for a long time.

Craftsmanship is central to this approach. Garments are made in small, family-run workshops in Italy, Germany and Poland, as well as in the working title studio. Objects and spatial elements are developed with selected craftspeople and manufacturers according to their material, function and place of use.

The methods and makers may change with the scale of a project; the attention given to material, construction and detail remains the same.

ENVIRONMENT + RESOURCES

working title seeks to use resources carefully and to avoid materials that leave an unnecessary and lasting trace.

Production is deliberately small. Garments are produced in limited quantities, while made-to-order allows individual sizes and adaptations to be made without unnecessary stock. As the collection develops into objects and elements for the interior, the same principle applies: production responds to actual demand rather than volume.

The garment collection is made without mineral-oil-based synthetic fibres. This extends beyond the visible fabric to fillings, threads, buttons, interlinings and other components. Natural fibres including wool, cotton and silk, as well as cellulose-based fibres such as viscose, form the basis of the collection.

As working title moves into furniture, objects and spatial elements, the ambition remains the same: to question the need for plastic and synthetic materials from the beginning of the design process.

This opens the material palette to wood, metal, stone, glass and other natural or recyclable materials, chosen according to their origin, properties, longevity and what can happen to them at the end of their use.

Certified raw materials are preferred, but certification alone is not considered enough. working title values traceability and direct, long-term relationships with suppliers and makers. Most materials are sourced from European producers with whom these relationships have
developed over time. Existing and deadstock materials are used where
appropriate.

Plastic-free is therefore not simply a characteristic of the finished product. It is an ongoing design principle that influences how working title develops its collection, objects and spaces.

Animal Welfare

working title is not a vegan practice, but the use of animal-derived materials is carefully considered.

Exotic skins and furs are not used. Leather is sourced from European animals and tanned in Germany. Woollen materials are spun, dyed and woven in Italy, with the origin of the raw material documented by suppliers.

The use of these materials is considered in relation to their origin, purpose, quality and longevity.

People

The people who make working title pieces are as important as the materials from which they are made.

The garment collection is produced with small, often family-run workshops in Italy, Germany and Poland. Close and lasting relationships with these partners allow knowledge to develop over time and provide a greater understanding of how and under what conditions each piece is made.

As working title moves into objects and spaces, this network grows to include craftspeople, fabricators and specialists from different disciplines.

Fair working conditions, appropriate pay and mutual respect are expected throughout these relationships. For working title, responsible production begins with knowing who makes something, understanding how it is made and valuing the knowledge involved.
